The Amazing Spiderman

The Amazing Spiderman? That's right it is not the same as the Spiderman movie's. The franchise has been rebooted with a new director and new cast. The new film set to come out July 2012, will be about Peter Parker developing his superpowers while at high school. Though you may be asking yourself hasn't this movie with the same plot recently being done?
Well yes it has in the 2002 adaption of Spiderman with Toby Maguire as Peter Parker. After the success of that film two followed, Spiderman 2 in 2004 and Spiderman 3 in 2007. So why start all over again?

What happened was in 2007, Spider-Man 4 entered development, with Sam Raimi attached to direct and Maguire, Kristen Dunst and other cast members set to reprise their roles. Raimi expressed interest in portraying the transformation of Dr. Curt Connors into his villainous alter-ego, the Lizard; and producer Grant Curtis was also enthusiastic about the idea. It was reported in December 2009 that John Malkovich was in negotiations to play Vulture and that Anne Hathaway would play Felicia Hardy, though she would not have transformed into the Black Cat as in the comics. Instead, Raimi's Felicia was expected to become a new super powered figure called the Vulturess.

Though the studio and Raimi didn't agree on most things which threatened to push the film of the intended May 6, 2011 release date. Sony Pictures announced in January 2010 that plans for Spider-Man 4 had been cancelled due to Raimi's withdrawal from the project. Raimi reportedly ended his participation due to his doubt that he could meet the planned May 6, 2011 release date while at the same time upholding the film creatively. Raimi purportedly went through four iterations of the script with different screenwriters and still "hated it".

So instead of letting an amazing franchise to end, Sony decided to put a fresh new spin on it and call it 'The Amazing Spiderman'. This is a very brave move, basically Sony is expecting for the public to go see a movie they have already seen in 2002. Well that is not entirely true, there are same differences besides the cast and this includes the main villain which is not the Green Goblin but instead Dr Curt. Conners or Lizard (probably due to Raimi's influence). As well Mary Jane will not be the main love interest for Peter Parker instead, it will be Gwen Stacy played by Emma Stone, you know Emma Stone the girl who is in practically everything these days.

The main cast change is of course with Peter Parker. The new film will have an Andrew Garfield, a relatively unknown actor playing the role. Garfield sticks with the sort of nerdy image of Peter Parker, and if your unsure about how his acting is, maybe try watching him in the 2009 film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which was made famous by it being Heath Ledgers last film. In my opinion his not a bad actor I just feel like the public don't like the same same when it comes to films so the new director Marc Webb needs to ensure the film is completely fresh just like the franchise. My fingers are crossed.
Toby Maguire will be replaced by Andrew Garfield
